The brief

A studio’s own website is its first sample, so our own fast website had to do what we sell. It had to load fast on a phone, make calling us the obvious next step and show up on Google. It also had to follow our own brand guide down to the exact colours.

How we built our fast website

  • Built in code and static. The site is built with Astro and Tailwind CSS. There are no plugins to patch and no database to hack, and the fonts are hosted on the site itself.
  • Phone first. The phone number stays in the header at every screen width, and the audit form works with a thumb.
  • Set up for Google. Every page has a title and a description, and structured data tells Google who we are and where we are. The home page and the Services page also list what we charge. There’s a sitemap, and robots.txt welcomes search engines and AI assistants.
  • Counts real enquiries. A lead is only counted when someone has actually sent the audit form.
  • Asks before tracking. Google and Meta tags stay off until a visitor says yes to cookies.
  • Accessible. We test it in a real browser, from 320px wide up, with a keyboard and with enlarged text spacing.
  • Checked against the brand guide. An automated check reads the finished pages and flags any colour, font or button that doesn’t match.

What we got wrong

Two things we got wrong in October 2026, and what we did about them:

  • Our first keyphrases missed. Each page was set up for a keyphrase, but they weren’t the words people type into Google, so the pages weren’t showing up where they needed to. We’ve since reworked them.
  • We forgot Bing at launch. We’d set the site up in Google Search Console but not Bing Webmaster Tools, so we were missing people who search with Bing. The Bing verification file is now on the site.

Editing it

Pages, blog posts and projects can be edited in a browser with Pages CMS, so a change to the words doesn’t need any code.
