On 29 October 2026 we looked up the tradies on Google Maps within 6 km of eight places: Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith, Camden, Campbelltown, Austral, Sutherland and Hurstville. We counted every listing Google files under one of eight trades: plumber, electrician, painter, roofer, landscaper, house cleaning, concreter and air conditioning. 2,597 weren’t marked closed.
1 in 5 (21%) had no website on their Google profile. Those 545 businesses had a median of 1 review: half had 1 review or none. The 1,999 that linked their own website had a median of 11.

Across all 2,597 businesses:
- 494 (19%) had no reviews at all, and 1,424 (55%) had fewer than 10. In this study, 10 reviews puts a business ahead of more than half the rest.
- Of the 545 with no website, 221 had no reviews either, and 170 hadn’t been claimed by the owner.
- 361 more trade listings in the same areas were marked closed, permanently or for now, so we left them out.

Concreters stood out. Nearly 3 in 10 had no website, and almost 4 in 5 had fewer than 10 reviews. Plumbers and air conditioning businesses had the highest median reviews (11 and 15) and were the most likely to have a site. A business listed under two of these trades is counted once, under the first one Google lists.

Parramatta had the most trade businesses and the lowest median, 5 reviews, with 60% under 10. It’s also where a quarter had no website. Penrith had the highest median, 11.
What this data can’t tell you
- It doesn’t prove a website brings reviews. A business that has been around longer, or is busier, may have both. What it does show is the comparison your customer makes when they scroll the map.
- “No website on the profile” isn’t always “no website”. Some of these businesses may have a site they never added to Google. For someone on Google Maps it comes to the same thing: there’s no Website button to tap.
- Where the data comes from. We used DataForSEO’s Business Listings API, a database copied from Google Maps listings. DataForSEO had updated 2,592 of the 2,597 listings in 2026. We matched trades on the categories Google gives each business, main and extra. A listing with no reviews shown counts as 0, and the 6 km circles don’t cover every suburb in between.
- No business is named. We only publish totals.
What to fix first if you’re a tradie
- Claim your profile. 31% of the businesses with no website hadn’t claimed theirs. Step 1 of our Google Business Profile checklist shows how.
- Put your website on it, if you have one. It’s one field, and it adds the Website button.
- Ask for a review after every job until you reach 10. In this study, 55% of businesses had fewer.
- Add photos of your own work. Profiles with no website had a median of 2 photos. The ones with a site had 17.
