How much does a small business website cost in Australia? (2026)

Websites
By Caelan Maxon · · Updated · 7 min read

The typical small business website cost in Australia is about $2,000 to $6,000 for a professionally designed site in 2026. A simple one-page site runs about $800 to $3,000, a fully custom build $6,000 to $15,000, and an online store starts around $10,000. Then you pay running costs every year: your domain, hosting and someone to make changes.

That’s the market. Where your site lands depends on what it needs to do, so here’s what moves the price, what the ongoing costs look like, what it costs to go without one, what we charge, and the questions to ask any web designer before you sign anything.

What does a website cost in Australia, by type?

Type of website Typical build cost (AUD) Good for
DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace) $0 to build, then about $30 to $80 a month Testing an idea, if you have the time to do it yourself
One-page site or landing page $800 to $3,000 A tradie or clinic that needs to be found and called
Small business site (5 to 10 pages) $2,000 to $6,000 Most service businesses: a page per service, about, contact
Custom build $6,000 to $15,000 Bespoke design, bookings, integrations
Online store $10,000 to $60,000+ Selling products with payments and stock (our online stores start from $3,500)

These ranges come from published Australian pricing guides, checked October 2026: What’s The Damage and ITEC HELP.

A quote far below these ranges usually means a template with your logo on it, or that something is missing: the words, the photos, or the setup that gets you found on Google. A quote far above usually means custom design or features you may not need yet. Neither is wrong. Just make sure you know which one you’re buying.

What changes the cost of a website?

Four things do most of the work: how many pages you need, who writes the words, what the site has to do, and who looks after it once it’s live.

  • How many pages. A one-page site with your services and phone number is a much simpler job than a ten-page site with a page for every suburb you serve. A plumber in Camden who only needs to be found and called doesn’t need ten pages. A physio clinic with three practitioners, five services and online bookings probably does. More pages means more to design, write and check, so it costs more.
  • Who writes the words and finds the photos. If you can send us your own photos and the basics about your business, it’s quicker and cheaper. If we write every page and source the images, it takes longer and costs more. Real photos of you, your van or your clinic almost always beat stock photos anyway.
  • What the site has to do. A contact form is simple. Online booking or payments is more work. A feature-filled online store with all the security boxes checked will set you back far more than a simple brochure-style site.
  • What happens after launch. A site needs hosting, and someone to make changes when your hours or prices move. A managed service costs more, but someone who knows what they’re doing keeps it fast and secure. We build sites so you can run them yourself if you’d like, or you can sign on to a monthly plan and we’ll manage it for you.

What do the ongoing costs look like?

A website has running costs as well as a build price. Budget for these every year:

Running cost Typical cost (AUD) What to check
Domain name (.com.au) $15 to $30 a year It’s registered in your name, not your designer’s
Hosting $15 to $150 a month Shared hosting sits at the low end, managed hosting at the top
Care or maintenance plan $50 to $300 a month What’s included: updates, backups, small edits

The cost people forget most is time: the time it takes to make a change, whether that’s your time or your designer’s. Hosting doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Modern hosts like Cloudflare, Netlify and Vercel can run a small, fast site for very little.

Ask your designer who pays for each of these and whose name each one is registered in. Your domain should always be in your name. At Alio!, we make sure everything we build for you is owned by you.

What’s the cost of not having a website?

Nothing you’ll see on an invoice. The cost is the calls that go to someone else, and you never hear about those.

When someone finds you on Google Maps, your profile shows a Website button if you have a site. Without one, a customer comparing three plumbers in Camden can read about the other two and not you. A Facebook page helps, but Facebook decides who sees it and how it looks.

When we checked 2,597 tradies on Google Maps across Sydney’s south and west in October 2026, 1 in 5 had no website on their profile. Half of those had 1 review or none. The ones with their own site had a median of 11.

To put a rough number on it, use your own figures:

  1. Take what a typical job is worth to you. Use your average, not your best.
  2. Multiply it by the extra jobs a month a website might win you. Start with one.
  3. Multiply that by 12.

If that number is bigger than the build price and a year of running costs from the tables above, going without is the dearer choice. A new site won’t bring calls in its first week, though. Google takes time to trust a new page, which is why we pair a site with a Google Business Profile tune-up.

What does Alio! Brand Studio charge?

Our websites start from $1,200, one-off. That’s at the lower end of the market because we’re a new studio, one person start to finish. You deal with the person who builds your site, and we keep our overheads small.

We put the final price in a written scope before any work starts, so there are no surprises. Every website we build includes analytics. If you leave the analytics out, it’s a lot like buying a car without a speedometer or odometer: you won’t know how well it’s performing or how far it’s taken you.

After launch, our Local Growth plan covers hosting, updates, Google profile posts, review requests and a monthly report. It starts from $450 a month, with no lock-in: billed month by month, cancel any time, no break fees.

The first 5 website clients get a founding rate, in exchange for letting us write up the results as a case study. We’re not registered for GST, so there’s no GST on top of these prices.

What should you ask a web designer before you say yes?

Ask these five questions. The first two matter most.

  1. Whose name is the domain registered in?
  2. If I leave, can I take my website files with me?
  3. What’s included after launch, and what costs extra?
  4. How fast does the site load on a phone?
  5. What happens when I want a change?

A good designer will make sure you own the domain and the website files. If they can’t give you a straight answer to the first two, keep looking.

Is there a cheaper way to start?

Yes. If you’re not ready for a full site, a one-page site with your phone number, your services and the suburbs you cover can be enough to start getting calls.

Before you spend anything on a website, we suggest a Google Business Profile tune-up from $350. For a local business in Liverpool, Camden or anywhere else, your Google profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before they ever click through to a website. It’s the quickest win, and it shows us what else is worth fixing. Our Google Business Profile checklist covers what we look at.
